In order for a speech generating device, tablet or any other piece of technology to be accessible, safe and secure, the “support system” or Mount must have certain aspects included in it’s design.
A fitted mount supports a person’s technology for maximum accessibility. When a mount is moved and then replaced, the repeatability of that positioning is what makes access to the AT or AAC system possible at all times.
An effective wheelchair mount also ensures the technology being mounted always remains safe whilst on the go and when stationary. This reduces the risk of damage from drops, knocks or falls.
Mounts need to be built over many different environments where it will be needed, which requires them to be constructed from materials. This makes sure they are fit for such purposes for as long as the need is required.
